This month, two new Ski Resort Development Plans (SRDPs) have been released for public review and feedback – Cypress and Manning.

Cypress Mountain Resort

Cypress Mountain Resort released their SRDP on September 15th, 2026. Briefly, Cypress will not be expanding their Controlled Recreation Area but is looking to expand the activities offered in the winter, summer and shoulder seasons, for example, lift-assisted mountain biking, new Nordic trails and hiking opportunities (viewing platforms, signage and trails). Other activities to be explored include zipline, ropes course, via ferrata, climbing wall, disc golf, and orienteering. In addition, Cypress proposes to increase the parking available, upgrade their lifts and snowmaking, and upgrade or replace facilities such as the Nordic Lodge.

In terms of backcountry access, Cypress acknowledges the resort is a key staging point for the Howe Sound Crest Trail, Black Mountain Plateau and Hollyburn Peak and is committed to “working with BC Parks, stakeholders, and the public so these opportunities can continue to thrive.”

Two open houses are planned – both on the North Shore:

  1. Friday, September 25 – 5:00pm to 8:00pm 
    West Vancouver Community Centre – Ocean Room
  2. Saturday, September 26 – 12:00pm to 3:00pm 
    Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre – Peak Room (Underground parking available
    off Fullerton Ave)

The public is invited to provide feedback by completing an online survey. The survey will be open until 4 pm on November 16, 2026.

Manning Park Resort

In early September, Manning Park Resort released their SRDP for public review. The SRDP is for the next 60 years – to 2084, although the Resort’s current focus is on the next 10 years. Currently, the proposed SRDP is only available on the resort’s website.

Briefly, Manning is proposing to expand their Controlled Recreation Area by about 60ha or 22% to offer new ski terrain (e.g., new or realigned lifts and trails). This includes improving the beginner-skiing experience below the Alpine Lodge and expanding access to terrain East of the Bear Chair. They will also be adding buildings at the Alpine Base “to centralize the experience”, make it more pedestrian-friendly and provide more parking. Manning also proposes to add new chalet units and potentially expand the Manning Park Lodge in the future. The proposed SRDP also addresses upgrades to staff housing and maintenance facilities.

Manning Park Resort has scheduled two open houses:

  1. Wednesday, October 14th – 5:00pm to 7:00pm (Camperland RV Resort, Bridal Falls)
  2. Saturday, October 17th – 1:00pm to 3:00pm (Manning Park Resort)

The public will be able to comment on the proposed SRDP by completing an online survey, which will be open between October 1 and November 30, 2026.

What’s next?

FMCBC’s Recreation & Conservation Committee will review the proposed two SRDPs and share information and updates, as warranted.
