Advocacy
The FMCBC works to protect access to BC’s mountains and forests for non-motorized backcountry users by working with government agencies, recreation organizations, commercial recreation operators and industry professionals. We advocate to protect traditional routes, sensitive ecosystems, and quiet places for people to enjoy.
The FMCBC promotes:
Advocacy through communication
The FMCBC meets regularly with various levels of government, resource extraction company representatives, conservation organizations and commercial recreation operators to discuss maintaining and improving access for non-motorized backcountry users. FMCBC directors and committee members also send letters to make recommendations, ask questions and respond to proposed changes in land use which will affect non-motorized backcountry users.
Advocacy through research
The FMCBC has conducted both official and unofficial research and surveys to learn more about the number of non-motorized backcountry users in BC, their economic impact, and the health benefits of participating in non-motorized backcountry activities. View our most recent studies here.
Advocacy through building partnerships and positive relationships
The FMCBC works hard to build partnerships with like-minded organizations. By working together with different user groups it is possible to grow the voice of the non-motorized, backcountry community.
