At the Federation of Mountain Clubs of British Columbia (FMCBC), we’re proud to support our member clubs with grants that empower their projects, improve trail networks, and enhance outdoor recreation experiences for all. This year, two of our 2024 grant recipients, Prince George Backcountry Recreation Society (PGBRS) and Apex Community Association, have been putting their funds to great use.
Here’s a closer look at their inspiring initiatives:
Prince George Backcountry Recreation Society (PGBRS): Enhancing Trail Accessibility on Tabor Mountain
PGBRS received a $600 grant from FMCBC to purchase a high-quality brush cutter and trimmer, covering 75% of the cost. This new equipment has been instrumental in improving and maintaining the “heritage trails” on Tabor Mountain. These trails, once bustling with activity, had seen reduced use and maintenance due to the development of a nearby cross-country ski area.
Apex Community Association: Building a Trail Tool Library for Okanagan Trails
The Apex Community Association has taken a creative approach to trail maintenance by establishing a Trail Building Tool Library.
Apex Community Association’s initiative exemplifies how a well-equipped community can come together to preserve and improve outdoor spaces. Learn more about their efforts and upcoming projects on their Facebook page.
Celebrating Community and Collaboration
Both PGBRS and Apex Community Association demonstrate the power of community-driven projects. Through their dedication and use of FMCBC grants, they’re creating safer, more accessible, and sustainable trails for outdoor enthusiasts across British Columbia. We’re honored to support their efforts and can’t wait to see what they achieve next!
Stay tuned for more updates from our grant recipients as they continue to make a positive impact on BC’s outdoor spaces.
