The Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC (FMCBC) is thrilled to announce the launch of our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan—a roadmap crafted with the voices and insights of our members, partners, and outdoor enthusiasts across British Columbia. This plan reflects our commitment to fostering accessible and respectful recreation in BC’s wilderness while addressing the evolving challenges of today and tomorrow.
Why This Plan Matters
For over 50 years, FMCBC has been at the forefront of advocating for public non-motorized recreation and access to BC’s backcountry. As outdoor recreation grows in popularity, our mission becomes even more critical. With this Strategic Plan, we are reinforcing our dedication to protecting BC’s natural spaces, empowering our member clubs, and advocating for sustainable practices that respect our wilderness.
The plan is built on three core priorities, each designed to strengthen FMCBC’s role as a leader in non-motorized recreation:
- United & Bold Advocacy
Amplifying the collective voice of non-motorized recreation enthusiasts, this priority focuses on championing issues like backcountry access, environmental stewardship, and trail quality. Together with our clubs, we aim to achieve tangible wins that benefit both current and future generations. - Organizational Sustainability
To sustain our mission long-term, FMCBC is investing in its internal capacity. This includes refining our human resources strategy, diversifying funding, and ensuring our organization reflects the diverse communities we serve. - Partnerships & Collaboration
We know that strong relationships amplify impact. By building partnerships with Indigenous communities, like-minded organizations, and regional stakeholders, we can create more opportunities for collaboration and shared advocacy.
Your Voice, Our Vision
This Strategic Plan would not have been possible without the thoughtful input of our member clubs and supporters. Your feedback from surveys, interviews, and conversations shaped our goals, ensuring the plan reflects the needs of BC’s outdoor community. From identifying priorities like inclusivity and trail accessibility to emphasizing the importance of collaboration, your voice guided every step of this process.

The launch of our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for FMCBC. Over the coming years, we’ll work tirelessly to bring these priorities to life, ensuring BC’s wilderness remains accessible, respected, and cherished.
