The Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC (FMCBC) is launching the BC Trail Tracker – a new website tool at its AGM on Saturday June 25, 2022.  The BC Trail Tracker will allow our members and the public to provide input on hiking trails in BC.  The following services will be provided:

  • trail descriptions – our members built many of the hiking trails in BC so we know them best
  • trail condition reports – we want to document where trail-work is required and need the public’s help to identify where repairs are needed
  • trail comments – information like trail closures due to problem bears, washouts or loss of a bridge.
  • links to other GPS mapping systems like AllTrails, GaiaGPS and TrailForks, we are not trying to compete with them

We need our members and the public to step-up because there is very little funding from government for our hiking trails.  While BC Parks did some minor improvements last year to the Howe Sound Crest and the Stawamus Chief trails close to Vancouver and Squamish there is so much more need for repairs.

We are doing a call-out for trail champions who will adopt one trail and organize trail volunteers to help fix the trail.  We also need regional trail stewards and coordinators to keep the website up-to-date and help keep the trail champions up-to-date on trail conditions.

Please contact our Trails Team if you are interested in volunteering!
