Mountain Mentors

Project: Backcountry Skiing and Splitboarding Mentorship Program for Marginalized Genders

MM has been busy delivering their summer mentorship program, serving 46 mentor pairs in the Sea to Sky region. 11 skills-based sessions were delivered in collaboration with professional guides, including 4 climbing clinics, 3 hiking clinics, and 4 skills days covering topics such as rock rescue, navigation, and first aid refreshers. They are now gearing up for their winter mentorship program, for which the 2026 FMCBC grant will support essential avalanche safety and wilderness first aid training.

“The Mountain Mentors community is so valuable and supportive. It’s been amazing to feel like I am capable of taking on a mentoring role as I continue building my own skills and confidence, while getting to up my ability, take clinics, and meet other women who are passionate about the same things I am. It’s also been meaningful to be surrounded by others who are committed to environmental stewardship and equity in outdoor sports, and who acknowledge indigenous sovereignty on these lands.” – Mentor Mika

Fridays Hike Club

Project: Land Stewardship/Coact Salish Workshop

“FHCS is looking so forward to their upcoming tour with Talaysay in October. Thanks to the grant, we are able to subsidize the cost for 10 women to be apart of this incredible cultural experience learning about local Coast Salish (shíshálh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) teachings,” says their founder Anastasia. This event is set to happen later this month and we can’t wait to hear about all the learnings and new insights that will come from it!

Rock On Collective

Project: Rock Climbing Mentorship Program

As ROC’s 2026 Rock Climbing Mentorship program nears its end, the 30 participants are celebrating their new learnings, experiences and connections that this program enabled. ROC offered 9 community events and 5 guided courses, which helped both mentors and mentees improve their safety practices, confidence, skills and friendships. FMCBC’s grant helped support these days by subsidizing the costs. Hear what one of their mentees had to say about the program:

“This mentorship was beyond expectations! I have learned so much and couldn’t be more grateful for my wonderful mentors and the ROCK ON team! I wouldn’t have been able to start rock climbing if not for this program. I’ve had the opportunity to attend many courses throughout the season and have met many kind and supportive people! Can’t wait for next season!”

Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association

Project: Annual Park and Shoreline Clean-up

Preparations are moving along smoothly for PNOA’s 2026 shoreline clean-up event which is scheduled for October 4th. This year, the club has expanded their reach beyond Metro Vancouver municipalities to Metro Vancouver Regional Parks, focusing clean-up efforts on Iona Beach. The FMCBC grant will support PNOA’s annual Park and Shoreline Clean-up Initative, by funding the purchase of cleaning & safety equipment, waste truck rental, transportation, and food & snacks for volunteers.
