Cloudburst: Sharing the Voice of BC’s Outdoor Community

For over five decades, Cloudburst has been the Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC’s legacy publication, sharing the adventures, insights, and advocacy wins of our clubs and members across British Columbia. From trip reports and trail building triumphs to environmental victories and volunteer stories, Cloudburst has captured the spirit of BC’s backcountry recreation community.
Now, we’re evolving.

Introducing Cloudburst Connect: A Seasonal Showcase

Cloudburst Connect is our new bi-annual digital storytelling series, celebrating the people, projects, and places that shape BC’s backcountry recreation. Each Seasonal Showcase highlights a curated feature series drawn from your club’s stories, shared across email, blogs, and social media to amplify your voice and impact.

This evolution means:

  • Your club’s stories will reach a broader audience, faster.
  • We’ll celebrate achievements, milestones, and advocacy when they happen.
  • Each campaign will spotlight the incredible people and places that make BC’s backcountry and trails matter.

Our first Cloudburst Connect campaign launches this summer, and we need your submissions by June 27, 2025 to be part of it!

Why Share Your Story?

Sharing your story with Cloudburst Connect helps amplify your club’s voice and strengthens our collective outdoor community across BC. When you submit a photo, a trip highlight, a club milestone, or a volunteer shoutout, you’re not just contributing content — you’re helping to:

  • Inspire others with your adventures and experiences
  • Build a sense of belonging among thousands of BC outdoor enthusiasts
  • Promote your club’s visibility – this is great for fundraising, attracting new members, or gaining volunteer support
  • Put your club on the map by showcasing your initiatives, leadership, and impact
  • Contribute to a legacy of stewardship, connection, and shared love for the backcountry

Together, we shape the story of recreation in BC—one trail, one voice, one club at a time.

How to Submit:

It’s easy! Simply…

  • Share your adventure.
  • Shed some light on a backcountry issue.
  • Educate others.
  • Show off your favourite photos or video.
  • Tell others about that great book (relating to BC trails or wilderness adventures, of course!)

We want to hear all about it!

We welcome all submissions related to non-motorized outdoor recreation related to BC’s backcountry, including:

  • Short stories (300–2000 words – Note: Longer submissions will be added to our blog and repurposed for social media).
  • Shoutouts for your volunteers, trail crews, and club heroes
  • Stunning photos or short video clips
