SOSNPThe FMCBC supports development of a National Park Reserve in the South Okanagan-Similkameen. The BC Government has resumed discussions regarding protection of areas in this region and has put together an Intentions Paper which outlines a framework for protecting lands in the South Okanagan by establishing a National Park Reserve.

At FMCBC’s Southern Interior Regional Meeting on October 17th in Kelowna our club directors were given a presentation by Doreen Olson of the South Okanagan Similkameen National Park Network (SOSNPN).   The SOSNPN is urging the BC government to include  Area 2, the area east of Vaseux Lake and the South Okanagan Grasslands Protected Areas in the National Park Reserve. Our regional directors agreed that including these areas would ensure better protection of this unique and diverse ecosystem which is of particular interest to our members of clubs who recreate in the area.

The government is currently accepting public feedback on their Intentions Paper until October 31st.  Two ways to offer your feedback are to review the SOSNPN’s Information Sheet which includes useful background information and suggests answers to the seven questions listed in the Invitation for Public Feedback section of BC Park’s South Okanagan Intentions Paper page.  Or you can send an email directly to BC’s Minister of Environment through our online email form below.
